Kitchen Electrics
When you are planning your new kitchen, the electrical supply is one fundamental aspect that you’ll need to take into account. The kitchen is probably the most dangerous area of your home in terms of electricity – it’s filled with a plethora of appliances and gadgets, which are in close proximity to water.
How many electrical sockets will I need in my new kitchen?
When designing your new kitchen, you need to think carefully about where to place the electrical sockets so they are convenient for the way you use the room. If you are completely gutting it in order to rebuild your dream kitchen, then you will have to think about the appliances you will definitely need.
For instance, when it comes to cooking, will you be using a cooker or a separate oven and hob; you will presumably also be installing an extractor hood. Everyone has a fridge and freezer, so you’ll have to think about whether you need a fridge/freezer or have enough space for separate appliances which will each need a socket. Most people have their washing machine in the kitchen, but do you also have space for a tumble dryer? And have you thought about the best place for the dishwasher?
This is in addition to the microwave, kettle and toaster which are all staple gadgets in the kitchen, as well as the sockets you’ll need to service all the gadgets we use for food preparation – food processors, bread maker, health grills, coffee machines, slow cookers… Oh, and you’ll probably also need somewhere to plug in the radio or TV to entertain you whilst you cook, not to mention somewhere to plug in your phone or tablet…
A qualified electrician can help you safely plan your kitchen electrics
As you will need the services of a qualified electrician to rewire your refurbished kitchen or just to add new sockets, it would be a good idea to involve them at the planning stage to make sure that everything you need will be both possible and also safe.
